24th March 2021NEW INDY MEMBER ORGANISATION GETS DOWN TO WORK, EXPECTS TO BE FULLY OPERATIONAL IN NEW YEAR
The new mass membership organisation for supporters of Scottish independence has begun detailed preparations for a full public launch in early 2021.
The 15-person interim National Committee is meeting (virtually) twice a week, supported by a growing number of technical committees staffed by volunteers from across Scotland.
The National Committee has elected well-known activists Gillian Mair and George Kerevan as co-convenors of the new body. George Kerevan is the former SNP MP for East Lothian and author of CATALONIA REBORN.
The National Committee also includes SNP MP Angus Brendan MacNeil, Dr Ian Grant of the Scottish Independence Foundation, and former diplomat Craig Murray.
The new grassroots campaigning organisation was launched at an assembly of independence supporters held last month. The assembly was initiated by All Under One Banner, the volunteer body responsible for organising some of the largest political marches ever seen in Scotland.
Co-convenor George Kerevan said:
“2021 will be a make-or-break year for Scotland. We simply can’t wait on the outcome of the May Holyrood elections before starting to organise the next independence referendum. That is why the grassroots of the movement have decided to set up this new, inclusive campaign body to start the ball rolling. There’s too much energy around to wait for the politicians to fire the starting gun.”
